The goals of the GFMD are threefold:
a) to bring together government expertise from all regions to enhance dialogue, cooperation and partnership in the areas of migration and development;
b) to address, in a transparent manner, the multidimensional aspects, opportunities and challenges related to international migration and its inter-linkages with development; and
c) to foster practical and action-oriented outcomes at the national, regional and global levels. As migration increases every year, and more evidence emerges of the significant benefits it brings for development in both origin and destination countries, policy makers are seeking to understand this complex relationship better and to maximize its mutual benefits through smarter policies and practices. The GFMD offers a unique multilateral space to examine the potential synergies between international migration and development and to steer current research findings and good practices towards more shared, cooperative forms of migration and development management.
